Abstract:
Waqf and ibtida' are important disciplines in the study of tajwid al-Qur'an. Mastery in the discipline and having fluency in reading is a must for every student of the Tahfiz alQur’an wal Qiraat Study Programme who wants to understand, appreciate and memorize the Qur’an. However, their level of mastery in waqf and ibtida' is very worrying. Errors in waqf and ibtida' will have negative implications for the deviation of the true meaning of the understanding of the Qur'an. This study focuses on how the knowledge of waqf and ibtida 'can be applied in daily reading and identify the level of effectiveness of the issues of waqf and ibtida' in student reading and analyze the factors that cause the problems of waqf and ibtida 'of students Tahfiz al-Qur'an wal Qiraat Study Programme from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah International Islamic University, Kuala Ketil, Kedah. This form of study is a quantitative study in which the researcher uses perception and observation instruments, used to collect data and analyze the data and interpret the results in this study to draw conclusions. The findings of the study showed most of the students still have problems with poor knowledge in recognizing the understanding of waqf and ibtida'. This is because the highest factor of their misunderstanding is because of poor in depth exposure to the knowledge of waqf and ibtida' and poor understanding of waqf and ibtida’s concept. These students need further enhancement and improvement in their mastery of waqf and ibtida'. Therefore, all parties must play an important role both from tahfiz teachers/lecturers, tahfiz al-qur’ān institutions, parents, peers and the community itself. The suggestions given include various aspects from the point of view of talaqqi, holding seminars, tahsin al-Qur’an classes, face to face tasmi’ and learning the knowledge of waqf and ibtida’ in depth.
